What is a transthoracic echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to directly observe your heart. This test allows your doctor to see your heart beating and pumping blood. Your doctor can use the images from an echocardiogram to identify certain types for heart disease.
Your doctor may order an echocardiogram to:

What should i do to prepare for the study?

You should take a bath before putting on the cardiac holter, so that your body is free of body oils.
Do not use perfumes or lotions as they can make the stickers peel off. Inform the personnel fitting the device if you are allergic to any tapes or other adhesives.
You should continue your normal activities while wearing the Holter.
In case of feeling any discomfort, you must press the button on the device, in order to know if there is a correlation between the symptom and a rhythm or heart rate disorder.
What happens during an echocardiogram?

You will remove your clothing from the waist up and put on a hospital gown.

The nurse will place three electrodes (small, flat, sticky patches) on your chest.

The electrodes are connected to an EKG monitor that tracks the electrical activity of your heart.

You will lie on your left side on an exam table.

The cardiologist will pass a place a sound transducer, with a small amount of gel, across various areas of your chest.

Once completed, you will be given a report of the findings the next day
