Coronary angioplasty
What is a coronary angioplasty?
For the heart to function properly, it uses coronary arteries to ensure an adequate flow of blood arteries. When these arteries become clogged with fatty deposits called plaques, they can reduce blood flow to the heart muscle, which can cause chest pain or discomfort, especially during exertion.
There are two main types of treatment for people with this symptom, the medical term for which is "angina pectoris": medical therapy (medications) and interventional treatment (a procedure to open narrowed coronary arteries). The goals of these treatments are to improve a person's quality of life and relieve symptoms such as angina pectoris.
Who is a candidate for coronary angioplasty?
Angioplasty may be recommended in two groups of people with angina
-
People who have persistent and intolerable symptoms despite proper medical treatment.
-
People who have specific patterns of arterial narrowing and are at high risk of heart attack or death.
The usefulness of stenting depends on the severity of the arterial narrowing.
¿How much does a cardiac exercise stress test cost?
The cost of a coronary angioplasty depends on the amount of "STENTS"
In general, the cost of an angioplasty with a single STENT is 150,000 pesos or 7,500 US dollars
